Rory McIlroy has turned ‘Dudley’ the black Labrador he befriended last week at Carnoustie into a super pooch.
McIlroy was waiting to tee up on the 18th tee on day one of last week’s Alfred Dunhill Links Championship when he spotted ‘Dudley’ to the side of the tee.
The World No. 1 beckoned ‘Dudley’ over and then to the delight of all those watching McIlroy began teasing the dog with his ‘Big Dog’ headcover.
Photos and video of McIlroy playing with ‘Dudley’ have no gone viral while it’s been revealed the dog is owned by a Scottish policewoman, Linzi McAlpine.
“It’s all been a bit mad as I was up at Carnoustie with my friend Rachel, as her mum and day were doing the scoring, so I decided to bring Dudley with me.
“I was crouching with Dudley beside the tee and Rory’s dad was looking at the dog and smiling. He then pointed out Dudley to Rory, so I let him off his lead.
“Rory began asking his name and saying how cute he was.
“Dudley absolutely loved it and I think he got a bit of an ego boost, as he tried to get onto the front seat of the car when we were heading home instead of going into the boot.”
And while Dudley basks in the limelight McIlroy is taking a well-earned break ahead of travelling to Bermuda for the October 14th staring Grand Slam of Golf.
