Ireland’s Peter Lawrie stormed into the then clubhouse lead with a blistering eight-under par 62 and his lowest-ever round in 358 events on the European Tour.
Lawrie posted nine birdies and just one bogey in his round to move to nine-under par on the Crans-sur-Sierre course.
It is the 40 year old’s lowest round and one shot less than a prior low of 63 in the 2010 European Masters.
And after opening scores of 69 and 70 to just make the cut the father of four was asked where did the turnaround in his game come from.

“Divine inspiration I would say,” he said smiling.
“I was lucky to make the cut yesterday holing about a 15-footer for birdie on the last and I did so right on the mark.
“I then came out this morning with the goal of shooting a low score and all of a sudden the putts started to drop, and the magical 59 was on there with a few holes to play but unfortunately I didn’t manage that but a 62 in a good score.”
And the effort could not have come at a better time for the affable Irishman as he strives to hold onto his European Tour card.
Lawrie arrived in The Alps lying 189th on the Race to Dubai money list and enduring a wretched season in making just five of 23 cuts.
“It’s just weird this game as I could be at home watching the TV and instead I am here and hitting a lot of decent shots,” he added.
“I’ve played rubbish most of the year until now so it’s just nice to be putting a few scores together and we’ll see what the rest of the season brings.
“I’m playing with a bit of confidence now so let’s hope I can shoot another low one tomorrow.”
