Europe Snatch Gleneagles Honours – Storming Two Points Clear On Day One – McDowell Singles Out Dubuisson.

Paul McGinley’s delivered on the opening day of the 2014 Ryder Cup storming two point clear to lead their USA rivals 5 points to 3.

Europe came from being down 2 1/2 points to 1 1/2 after the morning Fourballs to claim 3 1/2 points in the afternoon Foursomes.

Star for the Europeans and new crowd favourite was French-born rookie Victor Dubuisson who teamed with Graeme McDowell to win their final opening match 3 & 2 over the unbeaten Ryder Cup pair of Phil Mickelson and Keegan Bradley.

“That was a lot of fun today after a long wait this morning having to sit out and watch the boys play,” said McDowell.

“So Victor and I were really fired up this afternoon but I have to say one thing about my Ryder Cup experience is that I always get great partners  and I’ve played with Rory McIlroy in the last couple of Ryder Cups.

“But this kid right here, I am telling you now folks is that this kid is the next superstar of Europe.  This kid is really, really good.”

And Dubuisson, who virtually cemented his place in the side in finishing runner-up in January’s WGC – Accenture Match-Play Championship, was just as pleased to make his Ryder Cup baptism with McDowell as his partner.

“Yesterday I was a little nervous and it was tough to get some positive excitement as I was just so nervous,” said Dubuisson.

“But this morning when I got on the tee with Graeme it was just a dream and it was fantastic, and the stress I had completely disappeared and I owe Graeme a big thanks for that.

“He was fantastic with me but this is the first time I have played here, so it’s all very new for me and he’s just been really good with me and that is the reason I played so well this afternoon.”
