Struggling Tiger Woods ruled out contesting next week’s Wyndham Championship missing the 5pm register deadline, and given he has failed to qualify for the lucrative FedEx Cup Play-Off Series he will now await Tom Watson’s Gleneagles ‘wildcard’ verdict.
Woods posted a pair of PGA Championship 74s to miss the even par cut by six shots with a six over par tally.
However to the 14-time Major winner has to be congratulated for toughing out the second round clearly given his discomfort, and also despite TV pundits betting that Woods would walk off after nine holes.

“That was tough as I hit a lot of shots out there, 74 of them”, he smiled.
“So it was a long day.”
In fact, the pair of 74s were Woods highest round in the season-ending Major since shooting a 74 on day three of the 2012 PGA.
Included in Woods second round was birdies at 15 and the last but also bogeys at four, seven and 16 plus a sloppy three-putt double bogey at the sixth hole.
“I tried as hard as I could and that’s about all I got,” he said.
“Unfortunately, just didn’t play well. So consequently a pair of 74s is not very good.
“My back was still sore, no doubt it as it was sore. It went out on me on the range and it was just hard to play through it.”
And Woods confirmed it was pain associated with dislocation last Sunday of his Sacrum bone, the triangular bone in the lower back region, and nothing associated with surgery on his upper back earlier this year that side-lined him for three months.
However with Woods not registering for the Wyndham Championship it remains uncertain if Woods will simply rest and not compete until hopefully given a ‘wildcard” card for the September 26th starting Ryder Cup or will he seek to enter a European Tour event.
