Continuing Fog Delays Forces Officials To Reduce Madeira Islands Open To 36 Holes.

Continuing fog delays has forced officials to reduce the Madeira Islands Open to 36 holes.

Fog had resulted in a complete abandonment to play on Thursday as well as disrupting Friday and with half of the field of 77 managing to complete their first round in the Tour’s 1,500th event.

The 600-meter high Clube de Golf do Santo da Serra course was again shrouded in fog shortly after the restart this morning (Sat) to the first round and resulting in yet another delay in the Euro 600,000 event.

It will be the first time since December 2012 and the co-sanctioned inaugural Nelson Mandela Championship a European Tour event has been reduced to 36 holes.

Scotland’s Scott Jamieson won that event in South Africa and his countryman Scott Henry leads by one shot in Madeira after a round of a five under par 67 he managed to complete on Friday.
