The European Tour’s Madeira Islands Open has been delayed after the death of the caddy to Scotland’s Alastair Forsyth.
Iain McGregor, 52 and affectionately known as ‘Mac’ suffered a fatal heart attack on ninth fairway or the 18th hole of Forsyth’s second and final round of the Club de Golf do Santo da Serra course on the main island of Madeira.
And sadly, ‘Mac’ was due to turn 53 tomorrow (Monday).
Forsyth is a former Madeira Islands Open winning in 2008 with legendary fellow Scot Andy Prodger on the bag.

The European Tour issued a statement saying:
”It is with great sadness and deep regret that we report the untimely passing of caddie Ian MacGregor during play on the final day of the Madeira Islands Open – Portugal – BPI.
”Everyone at The European Tour extends our deepest sympathies to the friends and family of Ian at this time.
“Following consultation with the players and caddies involved, however, it has been decided that play should continue and the tournament should finish.
”A minute’s silence has taken place at the clubhouse and play resumed at 6.00pm local time.
“All administration will be taken care of by The European Tour and we will help in any way possible.”
