Wells Fargo Championship organisers have grouped three of the game’s most exciting young players in former Quail Hollow champions Rory McIlroy and Rickie Fowler, along with Sweden’s exciting Jonas Blixt, to compete alongside each other for the opening two rounds of the $6.9m event.

McIlroy broke through here in 2010 posting a sizzling final round 62 to win for a first time on the PGA Tour while Fowler tasted success here in Charlotte two years ago.

Blixt is returning to competition for a first occasion since sharing second place in the Masters.

Darren Clarke will join fellow Major Champions Stewart Cink and Davis Love 111 while five-time Major winner Phil Mickelson is grouped with England’s Lee Westwood and reigning US Open champion Justin Rose.
