Lee Westwood Hooks 20 Lb Fish Ahead Of Banking Hopeful Wells Fargo Success.

Lee Westwood celebrated his birthday last week landing the biggest fish in his life as he now looks to reel in victory in this week’s Wells Fargo Championship in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Westwood is returning to competition for a first time since landing the Maybank Malaysian Open title, his 41st career wind and just four days before his 41st birthday.

In fact, he spent his birthday some 20 miles off the Florida coast reeling in a 20 lb Mahi Mahi or Dolphin fish.

“It was one of the biggest fish I’ve ever caught and a great experience sitting out in the Atlantic,” he said.

“But coming back to the States and the PGA Tour with a win out in Malaysia has been great for my confidence as I had been playing well in Houston and then also in the Masters.

“I got a big spring in my step teeing up this week, and on a golf course where I’ve done well before.

“I was fourth here last year and fifth in 2012, so it’s a golf course I know I can play well, and coming off my Malaysian Open win just rubber stamps all the good work I have been undertaking off the golf course.”

While Westwood recently turned 41 former Quail Hollow winner Rory McIlroy will turn 25 on Sunday.

And the best birthday present he could receive:  “A win would be a great birthday present.

“But to be turning 25, I just feel so old out here with guys like Jordan Spieth and Seung-yul Noh, who won last week, all younger than me.”
