England’s Danny Willett has probably created a first in the history of the European Tour and that was a 13,000 feet sky dive leap over Dubai.
Willett along with wife, Nicole and caddy Jonathon Smart made the jump yesterday (Mon) ahead of this week’s 25th anniversary Dubai Desert Classic.
The trio, of course accompanied by an experienced sky diver, were in free fall for the first 1,000 feet before landing safely back to ground.
And little wonder Willett believes contending in the final round of a tournament “won’t seem half as difficult now”.
“It was an unbelievable experience,” said Willett.
“All three of us were pretty nervous beforehand. But once we got over the initial shock of jumping out, it was truly awesome.”
Willett was asked how shooting towards the Skydive Dubai premises, reaching speeds of 210 kilometres-per-hour, compared with the pressure of competing in some of the world’s most prestigious golf tournaments.
“Teeing off in the last round when I’m in contention won’t seem half as difficult now,” laughed the 26-year-old. “It has made me want to do another, though, and eventually one on my own.
“It was something we always fancied doing,” added Willett. “More importantly, our two chosen charities are extremely worthy causes and any contributions made would be very much appreciated.”
