Euroa Golf Club, Victoria, Australia … Monday Morning Delight.

It was the day after the 2013 World Cup of Golf and a lovely cloudless Monday morning as we headed north from Melbourne bound for Sydney and the Australian Open.

We were staring at a near 800 kilometre drive but were only about two hours into the journey when we decided to get off the Hume Highway to visit the Victorian rural town of Euroa.

The town was made famous by legendary Australian bush ranger Ned Kelly and the Kelly Gang when on 10th December, 1878 they head up the staff of the National Bank and escaped with £2,000.

Arriving from the Melbourne end of the town, it was not had to miss the Euroa Golf Club course and on the glorious Monday morning the club was a abuzz with members preparing for a competition.

I enjoyed the pleasure of a brief chat with the Club Captain along we enjoyed a cup of coffee and a biscuit.

The Club’s website proudly boasts the Europa Golf Club has long been recognised for its true-running quality bent-grass greens.

The course itself was designed by professional golf course architect – Vern Morcom in 1948 .

Morcombe is recognized for many golf course design achievements including the famed Kingston Heath in Melbourne.

Golf commenced in Euroa in 1908 and after a couple of re-locations members of the time chose the present site.

Just by inspecting a few holes around the clubhouse the Euroa course looked a real rural golfing gem and so like the wonderful ‘river’ courses found along the Murray River that divides Victoria from New South Wales.

Euroa is set in a very natural environment with gum tree lined fairways, creek crossings and an abundance of natural fauna and wildlife.  I was informed also it is no uncommon to see kangaroos and koalas as you make your way around this little well known golfing gem.

Unfortunately, I didn’t get the play the course given we still had a fair drive ahead of us to Sydney however if I ever again decide to drive between Australia’s two largest cities then the Euroa Golf Club will be a must.
