Craig Lee … One Foot On The Charter Flight To Dubai.

Craig Lee has all but confirmed his seat on tomorrow (SUN) night’s charter flight to Dubai after moving inside the top-20 after two rounds of the Turkish Airlines Open in Belek.

After completing three holes of the storm-delayed opening round for a three under par 69, the Stirling golfer returned to the Maxx Royal course and proceeded to chip-in twice for eagle on route to a 66 and a share of 17th place at seven under par.

Four players – Sweden’s Henrik Stenson (68), England’s Ian Poulter (66), Frenchman Victor Dubuisson (65) and South African Justin Walters (66) – head the elite 78-player field on 12 under par.

However now looming large is World No. 1 Tiger Woods, who after posting a first round 70, then returned from his 45-minute lunch break to shoot a blistering nine under par 63 to move to 11-under par and just off the lead.

Woods, who has not won a regular European Tour event since capturing the co-sanctioned 2009 Australian Masters, would have been credited with a new course record but then a ‘preferred lie’ rule has been in place since Thursday mornings thunderstorm flooded the course.Lee arrived in arrived in Turkey lying just one spot outside the top-60 who will qualify for next week’s season-ending DP World Tour Championship.

However Lee’s three nearest rivals in David Horsey (58th on the Race to Dubai), Soren Kjeldsen (59th) and Danny Willett (60th) have all struggled in Turkey with Horsey down in 42nd spot, and Kjeldsen and Willett tied in 70th place in the 78-player field.

“I’m kind of both feeling a bit of pressure but then I am also trying to free-wheel it,” said the Scot.

“I really want to play next week and ever since the European Masters it’s been my new goal.  It’s become a firm fixed goal and also a very realistic one, and has been for a while.

“So there is a little bit of pressure in that regard but it’s not like I am not going to have a job next year.

“It’s kind of a relaxed pressure.  It’s a strange sort of feeling.”

Richie Ramsay is next best of the seven-man Scottish contingent and added a 69 to his first round 70 to be tied in 32nd place at five under par.

However the current No. 72 on the Race to Dubai will need a stronger showing over the weekend if he is to join next week’s Dubai field.

“I have been working hard the last couple of weeks on my game and also doing a lot of gym work, so I am feeling a lot stronger,” said Ramsay.

“I know I need to finish pretty high this week to qualify for Dubai but then it’s not like it’s a pressure packed week, and with no cut and four guaranteed rounds, that is how I am looking at the week.

“If I don’t qualify I will finish my season this week and then take an extended break and start back next January at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship.

“That will give me time to see my shoulder fully heal, so that I will be in really good shape heading into 2014.”
