Tiger Woods Asked To Do Too Much In Ryder Cup Says Hal Sutton.

Former USA Ryder Cup captain, Hal Sutton believes Tiger Woods is asked to do too much when it comes to helping deliver the Stars and Stripes team victory in the biannual event.

The hapless Sutton led the USA side to its worst-ever Ryder Cup defeat in 2004 when thumped 18 1/2 points to 9 1/2 points by Europe’s Bernhard Langer side in 2004 at Oakland Hills in suburban Detroit.

Sutton was criticised heavily by pairing Woods and Phil Mickelson together but with the duo failing to gel by losing both their ‘team’ matches.

Hal Sutton says there's too much Ryder Cup expectations place don Tiger Woods.

Hal Sutton says there’s too much Ryder Cup expectations place don Tiger Woods.

And now in an interviewwith www.golf.com Sutton believes there is too much expectation placed particularly on Woods shoulders when it comes to delivering Ryder Cup victory.

“We’ve created some real superstars in the U.S. who have failed us when it comes to the Ryder Cup,” Sutton said.

“They don’t fail because they don’t have enough talent; they fail because there’s too much for them to do.

“I mean Tiger’s Ryder Cup record [13-14-2] is not very good at all, but everyone expects him to carry the team. He can’t get but five points. That ain’t gonna win it. So everyone else has got to perform.”

And as www.golf.com rightly points out Mickelson’s record in the Ryder Cup is not that much better than Woods with the new Open Champion holding the dubious record of the most losses in Ryder Cup history.
