McIlroy had to be rushed in the vehicle from his Chicago hotel and only just managed to get to Medinah minutes before facing Keegan Bradley and revealing he did not realise he was in America’s Central Time Zone.

Luckily for McIlroy and his European teammates who made a record-tying comeback that afternoon, a police escort got McIlroy to the course just in time.
