David Lynn Flying In Style To His Maiden Masters.

England’s David Lynn will by flying in style to his first Masters appearance.

Texas Open sponsors, Valero are putting on three Gulfstream private jets to fly players, caddies and managers from San Antonio and direct to Augusta, Georgia.

Lynn is among 15 players competing next week in Augusta and also including World No. 2 Rory McIlroy, triple Major winning, Padraig Harrington and past Masters champion, Charl Schwartzel.

“The offer of a private jet flight to Augusta It made it even more attractive to come here to San Antonio and compete,” said Lynn.

“It will be nice relaxing maybe with a couple of drinks (smiling).”

However Lynn’s more immediate concern was the disappointment of ending his second round with a double bogey for a round of 70 to move to two under par in the $6.2m event.

“I hit a shocker of a tee shot and then tried to play a ‘Seve’ second shot and ended up in a cactus, so I had to take a line of sight relief and then duffed it before chipping to six feet and holing the putt for a six,” he said.

“I was going really well before that and I had played really good yesterday.

“I was two under for my front nine today which is the back nine on the course but then totally lost my rhythm over my inward nine.

“But this golf course can start to feel a bit claustrophobic if you’re not on your game so after playing so well for much of the day, it was disappointing to drop two there at the end.”

The 39-year old Lynn is competing in his ninth PGA Tour event since securing his Tour card by finishing runner-up last August to Rory McIlroy that earned the Wigan Athletic football fan his biggest-ever career cheque of $865,000.

It was Lynn’s first event in the US and only his second Major appearance.

His best finish this year  has been T4th in the Honda Classic behind Tiger Woods.

However on day three of the event Lynn had played with Woods and indeed outscore the 14-time Major winner shooting a 68 to Woods’ 70.

And no sooner had Lynn handed in his scorecard and he was taken away for a random drugs test.

“So is this what happens out here?” Lynn tweeted.

“Outscore Tiger when you play with him and whisked straight off for a drug test.”

Lynn arrived in San Antonio lying in 66th place on the PGA Tour money list with earnings this season of $400,421.

Lynn is expecting a big following next week with his parents, girlfriend and host of others making their way to the Georgia golfing gem.

“There’s nine of us staying in the two bedroom house,” he joked.

And the player, who is nick-named ‘Shoulders’ or ‘Coat Hanger’ that perfectly captures his appearance, is just hoping there will be a green jacket on hand to fit the affable Englishman.

“I just hope they have a jacket with big-enough shoulders to fit me,” he laughed.

Lynn’s sense of humour has certainly struck a cord with US golf observers including Golf Week’s renowned scribe, Adam Schupak.

Adam tells the story in this week’s edition of the magazine of a prank that Lynn pulled on his caddy, Wayne Husselbury.

Lynn’s sense of humour has been dubbed – ‘Lynn-sanity’.

The story goes that Husselbury, who is single, created a dating website profile and that sent Lynn’s mischievous into overdrive with Lynn also setting up a profile but posing as a woman, with a busty photo of a ‘real stunner’.

So Lynn started sending messages to Husselbury and according to Lynn, he took the bait ‘hook, line and sinker’.

It seems Husselbury couldn’t wait to meet what could be a new ‘woman’ in his life.

However Lynn couldn’t keep the secret any longer.

“I just had to let the cat out of the bag after only a few hours as it was just too cruel to keep leading him on,” said Lynn laughing.

The former KLM Open winner had signed for first two rounds scores of 72 and 70 and staring at a possible top-10 finish.
