Rory McIlroy & Caroline Wozniacki Steal The Masters Par 3 Contest Show.

There was the aging ‘Big Three’ in Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer and Gary Player again playing the Par 3 Contest.

There was also Lee Westwood and his mother, Trish.  There was defending Masters champion, Bubba Watson and young son, Caleb.

There was players and their children.  Players and their grand children.

No, there wasn’t Tiger Woods and new heart throb, Lindsey Vonn.

But there was also Rory McIlroy and girlfriend, Caroline Wozniacki.  The World No 2 and his former World No. 1 women’s tennis ace were joined by Graeme McDowell and a third Northern Irishman in reigning British Amateur champion, Alan Dunbar.

McIlroy revealed he had tried to get his girlfriend into one of those ultra unfashionable white overalls last year but finally succeeded this year.

It was very much pay back time after Wozniacki had enticed McIlroy out of the crowd onto centre court during an exhibition match against Maria Sharapova at Madison Square Garden in New York.

And judging by the reaction from the crowd gathered along the nine holes at Augusta Wozniacki enjoyed the occasion.

“It’s very special as Caroline could have come last year but it did not quite work out, but I really wanted her to come and see what it’s all about,” said McIlroy.

“We’ve had a great time together and it’s been a fun way to wind up preparations.”

Wozniacki had tweeted beforehand:  “Excited to be Rory’s first ever female caddie today!,”

Caddying for McDowell was American-born finacee, Kirstin Stape.

American Nick Watney used a 55-degree wedge to record the 76th ace in the competition when he holed out at the ninth and before double Masters winner, Ben Crenshaw holed out at the seventh hole to post the 77th.

But if history continues to repeat itself that the winner of the Par 3 Conttest never then wins the Masters then it’s bad news for the foursome of three-time Masters winner, Phil Mickelson, fellow four-time Major winner, Ernie Els along with Watney and fellow American Ted Potter Jnr who were tied for the lead at four under par after the nine holes.

There will be a play off to decide the winner so stay tuned.

AND it was Potter Jnr competing in his very first Masters who came out on top defeating Mickelson after Els and Watney elected not to return to the course.

And when Potter was reminded of the Par 3 Contest hoodoo he said: “When I tee it up, I tee up to win so I don’t really care about the history of the Par 3 Contest when compared to the Masters.

“So I am just very pleased how well I played today and I have to thank my finacee and caddy, Sheree.”
