The Aussie trio of Geoff Ogilvy, Robert Allenby and Aaron Baddeley each headed south and down to the bottom of the leader board on the first day of the Northern Trust Open.
Ogilvy, the 2006 US Open winner, along with Allenby posted disappointing five over par 76s while Baddeley carded a horror seven over par 78 to be then sharing last place on the Riveira course in suburban L A.
Ogilvy had just two birdies in his round that also included five bogeys and a 10th hole double bogey.
The effort continues a disappointing appearance in the event for the Australian who has missed the cut in nine appearances dating back to his debut in 2003 while Ogilvy has broken 70 on just seven occasions in 27 rounds on the 1995 PGA Championship host venue.
Allenby captured the event in 2001 after being involved in a historic six-man play-off and finally winning with a birdie at the first extra hole.
But despite today’s poor start the L A course has been kind to the Victorian-born Allenby with four other top-10s including third in 2007 and fourth in 2011.
Baddeley’s opening round was a bitter sour cocktail of one birdie, three bogeys and a second hole double bogey and in fact, he was three over after just three holes.
His first round effort this year is certain to spoil an impressive record in the event as Baddeley has never missed the cut in 11 appearances and capped by his memorable $1.1m victory over Vijay Singh Couples two years ago.
Sandwiched in between the 75s of Ogivly and Allenby and the 77 of Baddeley’s was the 76 submitted by Masters champion, Bubba Watson.
