Matt Kuchar is unlike many Americans in that he’s been used to competing around the globe.
The affable American has competed in Australia, Asia and it may surprise many he teed up in the 2000 Irish Open at Ballybunion.

So it comes as a surprise that this is his first visit to Hong Kong to compete in the UBS Hong Kong Open.
And it is also the first occasion the 34-year old Florida golfer has competed in a European Tour event since being a member of the losing USA Ryder Cup team.
Kuchar, who is accompanied by his wife, lost out 3 & 2 in the decisive Sunday Singles to England’s Lee Westwood.
But while Europe continues to bask in the glory of their stunning one point success, Kuchar is moving on with his golfing life.
“Every week you start from scratch,” he said.
“No matter what you do the week before, the week before doesn’t matter. The Ryder Cup was six weeks ago or thereabouts, and I’ve played a number of events since and I’ve been able to move on.
“The Ryder Cup was an amazing event and it seems to be every two years, just a fantastic event. This year was again just amazing.
“The US team was on the losing side but if you look at it from a greater perspective, it’s one of the those things that continues to attract fans to the game of golf.
“The nature of the sport is such that you learn to move on.”
Kuchar will play the opening two rounds of the $2m UBDS Hong Kong Open in the company of Spain’s Pablo Larrazabal and Denmark’s Anders Hansen.
