Peter Lawrie Gets A Chance At $6m Barclays Singapore Open Winning Sling As Gonzo Heads To Japan.

Ireland’s Peter Lawrie will be winging his way to Singapore next fortnight after being afforded an invitation to compete in the $US 6m co-sanctioned Asian and European Tour event.

The Dubliner joins six others – the Japan trio of Yuta Ikeda, Azuma Yano and 2013 International Presidents Team vice-captain, Shigeki Maruyama along with Englands’ Chris Woods and double Major winner, John Daly competing on the Sentosa course.

It will be Lawrie’s fourth straight showing in the event after having finished 24th in 2009, 25th in 2010 and 75th last year.

And Lawrie will be looking also to put the invitation to good effect as he currenly lies 57th on the Race to Dubai and keep to contest the season-ending DP Dubai World Championship.

But while Lawrie is delighted to be competing in Singapore Spain’s Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano has disappointed organisers by electing to compete in Japan in the 150,000,000 Yen Mitsu Sumitomo VISA Taiheiyo Masters.

‘Gonzo’ became the first Spaniard to win the event when he defeated Philippines Juvic Pagunsan in a play-off on Monday morning in last year’s rain-affected event.

‘Gonzo’ then returned to the Sentosa Resort Hotel to a heroes welcome with the red carpet laid out for the victorious Spaniard while a line of chefs from the kitchen formed a guard of honour.
