Kristoffer Broberg Storms His Way Into Contention For A Fourth Victory In Six Starts.

Ultra-talented Swedish golfer Kristoffer Broberg has stormed his way into contention for a fourth victory in six Challenge Tour starts after day one of the Crowne Plaza Copehagan Challenge.

Broberg created history earlier this year in winning three of five Challenge Tour events to automatically earn his full 2013 European Tour card.

The 26-year old Swede, knicknamed ‘Kotte’ (Swedish for conifer), didn’t drop a shot around the Royal Golf Club course in the Danish capital to end the round tied with Dane Joachim Hansen with rounds of five under par 67s.

“I’ve been in bad shape the last few weeks playing on The European Tour,” he said.

“The step up hasn’t been that hard, but I’ve just not been playing well at all. So it was nice to come back to Scandinavia and play a good round.

“This course is tough, which makes it even more satisfying to post a good score. You have to be straight off the tee, which is one of my strengths. We all played very well and spurred each other along.”

Broberg returned to the Challenge Tour after competing in four events on the main Tour including receiving an invitation to contest last month’s Alfred Dunhill Links Championship.

He and caddy, Jimmy Engstrom Armgren. had spent eight days ahead of the $US 5m event residing in Crail from where they played a number of links gems including Crail, St. Andrews Bay and Ladybank, and that paid off when he shot an opening round 67 on Kingsbarns.

But while Broberg could not repeat his remarkable Challenge Tour efforts on the main Tour he’s returned to the secondary Tour to again set the Tour alight and boosting hopes of ending the season as the Challenge Tour No. 1.

Broberg has earned Euro 93,680 in just his five events and just Euro 17,176 behind England’s Gary Lockerbie and with this week’s Danish event and the next week’s season-ending Apulia San Domenico Grand Final at Saveelletri in Italy remaining.
