European Tour To Put Plan In Place To Dispel Ryder Cup Captaincy Selection Dilemma.

The European Tour is working on a ‘plan’ to deal with the expected selection of the 2014 European Ryder Cup captaincy dilemma.

The problem arises that among the 15-man Tournament Players Committee that endorses a new Captain there is currently the four vice-captains who assisted Jose Maria Olazabal in Medinah.

Keith Waters says the European Tour is there is a ‘plan’ being put in place to deal with 2014 Ryder Cup captaincy vote.

Among them is the Irish duo of Gleneagles favourite Paul McGinley and Darren Clarke along with Thomas Bjorn and Miguel Angel Jimenez.

All four are seen as potential Ryder Cup captains and Keith Waters, Director of International Policy with the Tour, says the Committee needs to establish a better means of assessing each candidate in a different environment and away from the Committee room.

“It was briefly discussed at the end of the Tournament Players meeting last week in St. Andrews,” said Waters.

“At the end of the day it is the Players Committee that vote to decide on the new Captain and there is going to be a plan because there are a lot of ‘interested’ players who are on that Committee.

“So we are going to manage how we discuss that situation and the timing of that.

“It will be January/February next year when we are in Abu Dhabi.  But it is going to be quite tricky in that committee room giving the next Ryder Cup captain is likely to be a member of the committee.

“We are looking at a better scenario but is has to be discussed at committee level.”
