World No. 1 Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods are level pegging after two rounds of the BMW Championship at Crooked Stick in Indiana.
Fijian Vijay Singh, a three-time Major winner, added a 65 to his opening 66 to snatch the lead by one stroke on 13-under par.
But after McIlroy stormed to a first round eight under par 64, and one less than Woods, the 14-time Major winning Woods drew level in the second of the FedEx Cup Series tournaments in posting a 67 to McIlroy’s 68.
American and former U.S. Amateur champion, Ryan Moore carded a 66 to join McIlroy and Woods.
And current World No. 4 Lee Westwood returned to form with a 65 to be just one shot behing the trio in second and two behind Singh.
McIlroy admitted after his round he wasn’t as pleased as day one.
“It wasn’t as good a day as yesterday as I didn’t hit the ball quite as well, but scored well and did enough to go out there and shoot another good number and set myself up in a good position going into the weekend.,” he said.
“You know, as I said, I could have hit the ball a little better from tee to green, but still got it around in 4‑under, so pretty happy.”
But in saying that the triple PGA Tour winner this year says it is a course where if you don’t go low you are feeling as though you’re being left behind.
“That’s just the way it is, soft conditions, not much wind out there,” he said.
“Guys out there are that good. You shoot a couple of decent rounds, you’re just going to get lapped. You know you’ve got to go out there and make birdies, and I suppose that’s just your mindset from the start. That’s just the way it is, and you have to go out there and try to do that.”
But then while McIlroy looks to become the first player this year to win four times on the PGA, the 23-year old Northern Irishman admitted he also had an eye on the player who also has three wins this season.
“No, I mean, I’m concentrating on my own game and, of course I’m watching Tiger hit his shots, as well,” said McIlroy.
“But I mean, for the most part I’m just trying to shoot the best score possible out there that I can, and that’s all I’m really trying to do.
“However I do think we needed to concentrate a little bit more. Things were sort of coming easy yesterday. We needed to concentrate out there and try and shoot the best score possible, and we obviously both did that.
“And if Tiger and I played together again tomorrow that would be great.
“It always brings a bit of excitement, a bit of a buzz playing with him. We’ll see what happens, but if I am playing with him, I’m looking forward to it.”
