Karl MacGinty Again Reminds Us Of Nick Faldo’s Mindless Manners.

The Irish Independent’s Karl MacGinty again reminded us of Nick Faldo’s mindless manners.

Karl was in Turin last week and thrilled to cover for a first time in his career, the BMW Italian Open.

But then last Thursday the handfull of UK-based media present, including myself and ‘Tour Miss’, were distracted by this conversation Karl was having on the ‘phone.

As it turned out, Karl was speaking with six-time Major Champion, Nick Faldo.

Karl had been invited to interview Faldo about the Faldo Junior Series, and with Faldo present at the Loch Erne course he designed.

But it begs the question why those minders looking after Nick Faldo’s affairs invite the media to talk to Faldo just two weeks before a Ryder Cup and not expect the English golfer to be asked questions about the Ryder Cup.

Faldo can’t be that stupid?

Karl was courteous in asking Faldo initially about the Faldo Junior Series and what he thought of the prospects of his former star pupil, and now current World No.1, Rory McIlrloy, in the up-coming Ryder Cup.

Karl wondered if McIlroy might become the first-ever European Team player to record five points from five matches.

Faldo responded:  “That’s speculation, we’ll see!”

Karl, and writing in today’s edition of the Irish Independent, then quizzed Fadlo why is it difficult to win all five matches and given there has only been one player in the history of Ryder Cup to achieve that feat – American Larry Nelson.

Karl suggested to Faldo is it because they might feel exhausted come the Singles?

“The singles always feels quite weird because you’ve been with a partner all week and now you’re on your own … fatigue is another factor, but there’s a lot of permutations during the week,” said Faldo.

Karl asked a few other questions of Faldo, including reference in Faldo’s own autobiography ‘Life Swings’, when Faldo suggested ‘there was skullduggery afoot ‘ at the 1987 Ryder Cup at Muirfield Village in Ohio.

Then Faldo was asked if he thought it was a distinct advantage to the Team USA given Davis Love 111 was responsilbe for the set-up of the Medinah course.

Faldo answered the question suggesting the teams are so evenly matched  that despite Davis Love 111 asking for the first cut on the fairways to be widened, Europe had big-hitters in Rory McIlroy and Nicolas Colsaerts who all bomb the  ball, so he didn’t think do.

Karl MacGinty is one of the most respected golf writers in Europe and he’s greatly admired by the likes of fellow Irishman Padraig Harrington, Graeme McDowell and Rory McIlroy.

But now the hapless 2008 Ryder Cup was beginning to show the side that former wife suggested – ‘In a social situation Nick Faldo is a 24-handicapper’.

In Karl’s words he said Faldo blurted out: “Boy, you really are on a train,  Every question loaded – it’s a ticking bomd.”

Faldo then asked Karl:  “Do you mind talking about the Faldo Series.”

“No, not at all. Fire away,”Karl reports.

Faldo then said: “That really was the theme of the phone call”.   And then adding:  “Shock, horror, eh?”

Karl answered: “Well, to behonest with you. I don’t really understand that to be the case.”

Faldo interrupted:  “Didn’t understand that to be the case.”

Now here’s the punchline!   Faldo then said:  “Here, I’ll pass you over.  I need to go to the loo.”

Is Nick Faldo and his minders that mindless to expect Faldo not to be asked questions about the Ryder Cup with just a fortnight to the start of competition?   How stupid can Faldo or his minders be?

Faldo was unplayable as a Ryder Cup captain and he’s still unplayable in his public dealings.

As well, the European Tour seemed to have bowed to Faldo’s ways in now rewriting every single record of Faldo’s wins to read – Sir Nick Faldo – so much so that if Nick Faldo won a tournament in 1977, it’s now Sir Nick Faldo.

If that’s the case, why hasn’t the European Tour changed every record of Henry Cotton and New Zealander Bob Charles to read – Sir. Henry Cotton or Sir Bob Charles.

Nick Faldo’s conservation with the respected journalist, Kar MacGinty was yet another example of Faldo’s mindless manners.

One only hopes he washed his hands after going to loo.

And congratulations to Karl MacGinty for reporting his conversation with Faldo.

www.golfbytourmiss.com still eagerly awaits the day when a team member of that 2008 European Ryder Cup team, a team that a drover’s dog could have led to victory, finally has the guts to lift the lid and reveal all glory details of Faldo’s incompetent Valhalla leadership.
