Nine months after winning his first European Tour event and Dutchman Joost Luiten is still waiting for his one remaining prize – a replica of the winning trophy.

Luiten, 26 came from four shots back last September to capture the Iskandar Johor Open in Malaysia.

Persistent heavy rain throughout the week in the Malaysian state forced officials of the co-sanctioned European and Asian Tour event to reduce the tournament to 54 holes.

Luiten, who enjoyed a prolific winning amateur career, posted a third and final round 65 to come from behind and defeat Sweden’s Daniel Chopra and also overhaul defending champion, Padraig Harrington of Ireland.

And while Luiten delighted in receiving a Euro 242,581 first prize cheque along with a two-year European Tour exemption to the end of 2014, he is still awaiting a replica of the gleaming trophy presented to him by the King of Johor.

“It’s been nine months and I’m still waiting for the trophy to be sent to me,” he said after posting a second round 69 to move into a five way share of eighth place at seven under par and only four shots from the lead in the BMW International Open in Cologne, Germany.

“Winning in Johor was my first European Tour victory so it will always be a very special win for me.

“I’ve been looking forward to placing a replica of the trophy alongside the many trophies I won as an amateur.

”I’ve got a vacant place for it where I have all my trophies.”

The Bleiswijk–born Luiten turned pro in 2006 after capturing the 2005 Spanish, German and Dutch Amateur championship titles.

Luiten also had two pro career victories on the secondary Challenge Tour before winning on the main Tour in Malaysia.

The Dutch golfer will return to Johor in December later this year to defend his title but with the tournament now just as Asian Tour event and the last on their 2012 schedule.

“Yes, I will most probably return to defend as being at the end of the year it should fit into my schedule,” he said.
