European Tour Pours Cold Water On Els’ Scathing Course Criticism

The European Tour virtually poured cold water on Ernie Els’ scathing critisism of the dry state of the Wentworth West course.

The three-time Major winning Els slammed both the European Tour and the greens staff at Wentworth for the lack of watering about the famed ‘Burma Road’ layout, knowing the expected hot weather and strong easterly winds.

However the European Tour later released a statement with Tournament Director, David Garland saying:

“The BMW PGA Championship is the flagship event on the European Tour and we want a tough but fair set-up.

“The greens have been hand watered every night after play.  This was done last night and, because we knew that east winds were forecast for today, sprinklers were also put on every single green last night to give them more water.”

It’s just that Els argued there was not enough H2O put into the greens.
