New Challenge For Media At St. Annes Old Links.

It was a slightly windy but sunny day when members of European media teed-up this afternoon on the splendid St. Annes Old Links course at St. Annes on the north-west England coast.

St. Annes Old has long been a Local Final Qualifying venue for The Open and again will play host ahead of this year’s Open Championship at nearby Royal Lytham and St. Annes.

Jeremy Champman, representing the Racing Post, headed the day to win by two stableford points from Robin Barwick and www.golfbytourmiss’ Bernie McGuire who shared second.

And Bernie denied ‘arch’ rival Trevor Peake a first up victory in the opening encounter of the 2012 Ashes golf series.   Bernie hit what Trevor described as a ‘career best’ E21 23-degree hybrid club some 175-yards out to an unsighted 18th green and then walked over the brow of the hill to see his ball had stopped two feet from the flag for a tap-in birdie and win the match 1up.

Suffice to say Trevor was suitably impressed!

Many thanks to Old St. Annes for hosting and to Mike Harris, Captain of the AGW for organising an enjoyable day.
