Leading British bookmaker William Hill went all out to lay Rory Mcllroy for a million pounds by pushing out his price from 6/1 to 9/1 and by midday today (Wed).
Hills had Rory for £1,022, 975. with 9,933 customers having placed a bet on Mcllroy, with Hills offering a maximum stake of £50ew across the retail estate.
Mcllroy is now 13/2 from 9/1 to win a first green jacket.
Four time Masters winner Tiger Woods remains the favourite at 5/1 with other contenders who have been very well backed include Phil Mickelson at 12/1, World No. 1 Luke Donald at 14/1, World No. 3 Lee Westwood at 22/1 and Justin Rose 30/1.
“Mcllroy had a meltdown in the final round of the Masters last year and we are banking on Augusta having bad memories for the world number two. It is not often that we are happy to see Tiger win but as it stands we are happy to see anyone ahead of Mcllroy come Monday morning,” said Hill’s spokesman Rupert Adams.
