Lawrie Now Has Both Sons Into ‘Paul Lawrie Foundation Scottish Boys Championship’.

While Paul Lawrie was struggling to stay within contention at the Masters the news was good for youngest son, Michael looking on from behind the ropes at Augusta National.

At the start of the week, Michael Lawrie was second reserve into the event but the withdrawal of two players will now see the 13-year red head join his 16-year old brother, Craig in the event at Murcar.

The championship starts on Monday and with Craig Lawrie (aged 16, handicap 0.4, club Deeside) was already in the field and tees-off in the first round on Monday morning at 7.41am against Scott Finlay (Liberton).

However Lawrie will miss seeing his son on Monday as he, his wife Marion and Michael will not get back to Aberdeen to late Monday afternoon.

“It’s just great both boys are now in the championship and hopefully if Craig wins his first round on Monday we will get to see him also play,” said Lawrie.

“I can’t wait to get to Murcar and it’s going to be pretty exciting. I will be there all week and I’m looking forward to it.

“You can imagine that Michael is pretty excited to be making his debut in the tournament but then he is still only 13.

“We didn’t think he would get into the Scottish Boys until next year so he’s well ahead of schedule so it’s great he’s in the same event now as his brother, Craig.”

Michael Lawrie (aged 13, handicap 5.8, club Deeside) will now play in the first round on Tuesday morning (10 April) at 9.53am against Aaron McManus (Tantallon).

Craig played in the Scottish Boys last year at Dunbar and reached the third round, losing to Jack McDonald.

This will be the first time Michael has played in the event.

Though he’s not the youngest player competing next week as Kirkhill’s Cameron Andrew, who just turned 13 in February, has that honour.

And having competed at Augusta over this weekend, Paul Lawrie is expected to arrive at Murcar in time to see both sons in competition.
