In a promoter’s dream the world’s top three ranked players – Rory McIlroy, Luke Donald and Lee Westwood – will line up on the starting grid side-by-side for the opening two rounds of the Cadillac Championship.

McIlroy dethroned Donald in winning last week’s Honda Classic while it was Donald who pulled the World No.1 rug out from Westwood in moving to No.1 in the world at last May’s BMW PGA Championship showdown at Wentworth.

McIlroy became the second youngest World No. 1 in capturng a first pro career title last Sunday at Palm Beach Gardens.

Donald elected to sit out the event whereas Westwood stormed to a share of fourth place.

And both Donald and Westwood have the chance now to ensure McIlroy’s position as World No. 1 lasts all of one week as if either of them were to clinch the $US 8.5m tournament then either could regain top rung on the World Rankings.

Organisers have also grouped the World No. 4, 5 and 6 – Martin Kaymer, Steve Strikcr and Webb Simpson – in the same three ball.

And to continue the trend the World No. 7, 8 and 9 will be together along with the World No. 10, 11 and 12.

Defending Cadillac champion, Nick Watney who is ranked No. 17 will tee up alongside World No. 16 Tiger Woods and present World No. 18 Sergio Garcia.
