McIlroy Not About To Get Comfortable As Donald Looks To Regain His Lofty No. 1 Perch.

While Luke Donald suggested to Rory McIlroy he ‘enjoy the view’ of being World No. 1 the Northern Irishman could easily find his elevation to the top of the rankings short-lived.

After skipping Donald returns to competition at this week’s $US 8.5m WGC – Cadillac Championship.

In his absence the Englishman lost his World No.1 ranking to a player some 13 years his junior and you can be assured Donald will be desperate to restore some lost pride.

Donald can return to Number One with a top of the board finish and if McIlroy finishes wel off the pace given there is just .32 of a world ranking point now seperating the pair.

Donald was among the first to send a congratulatory ‘tweet’ to McIlroy saying:  “Congratulations, enjoy the view.”

But it could be McIlroy ‘tweeting’ Donald with the message:  “Thanks for the message but one week is hardly long enough to enjoy the view”.

In a plus for Donald the quitely-spoken Chicago-based Brit returns to Florida having won his last event in the Sunshine State in winning the Disney Championship (Childrens Miracle Network Hospitals Classic) to claim the PGA Tour No. 1 money list title.

And while McIlroy celebrated his Honda Classic win with girlfriend Caroline Wozinacki in New York he will be competing in the Cadillac Championship for a fourth occasion but with a prior best result of a share of 10th place alongside Tiger Woods a year ago.

He made his debut in the event finishing T20th and then in 2010 McIlroy was well down the field in a share of 65th spot.

And in 12 rounds of the ‘Blue Monster’ McIlroy has managed to break par on just five occasions.

In contrast, Donald has competed in the past eight WGC – Cadillac Championships that from 2004 to 2006 included were contested in Ireland and England as the American Express Championship.

In Donald’s five showings at Doral his best finish was last year when he finished tied sixth with Australia’s Adam Scott on 11-under par and five strokes behind American Nick Watney.

So Donald’s played 20 rounds at Doral with 13 of those either par or better.
