One of the striking features of the Amata Spring Country Club is the massive structure overlooking a good portion of this week’s host Thailand Golf Championship.
Amata Castle is a strange looking building and from a distance it resembles a mix of traditional Thai architecture but also there is other portions, particularly the area looking out of the 11th and 12th holes, that resemble an oversize cage.
Then the portion of the castle that overlooks the large lake and the unique 17th hole floating green is more akin to a large bunker.
But it’s on closer inspection you learn the real shock of Amata Castle.
The castle is a complete shell with nothing whatsoever inside apart from cold concrete floors and electrical and other major fixture points.
Industrial estate tycoon, Vikrom Kromadit invested $US 50m of his personal fortune into building the still incomplete castle.
Kromadit is Chairman of Executive Board, CEO and Managing Director of Amata City Company Ltd.
The castle is laid out on a 25,000 metre site that was supposed to be finished in June 2010 but is now due for completion some time in 2012.
To be included in the castle when completed will be a museum to house works of art and literature from the Suvarnbhumi region from the past and into the future.
Even though it remains unfinished the Castle is used for functions including award cermonies and has quickly become the Cultural Art Center of Suvarnabhumi.
Here is a selection of snaps taken from outside and inside the unfinished Amata Castle.
