The U.S. Open winning duo of Rory McIlroy and Graeme McDowell are closer now than two peas in a pod.
That’s in observations off the course during this week’s Omega Mission Hills World Cup.
They have been long-time good friends but the chemistry between the two has been seemingly enhanced now they’re both under the Dublin-based Horizon Sports Management.
You only have to see them sitting together in the ‘On the Rocks’ bistro restaurant each night on the basement level of the expansive Mission Hill resort, and in the company of Horizons Colm Morissey to know that conversation like on management issues can be talked about freely.
It’s the same when the adjorn to the upstairs Lounge Bar where they’ve been seen together along with their respective caddies.“Now that I am with Horizons it really has given me the chance to spend more time with G Mac and more so than I would have had the opportunity in the past,” said McIlroy.
“Of course, we see each other at tournaments and might play practice rounds together and then hang around the clubhouse but like last fortnight in Shanghai for the HSBC Champions and now this week, we do get to see more of each other off the golf course.
“I enjoy G Mac’s company no matter where in the world we are playing because I will try to catch up with him.
“But now having the same management company does allow me to spend more time with him as I would have had access over the past few years.
“You could say it’s more quality time but then that’s not a huge factor for me in the way I play, and it’s just nice to have someone there who you’re close to that you can spend having dinner or a drink with and chat about issues and matters now common to both of us.”
