Padraig Harrington Injures His Foot Ahead Of Portugal Masters

There is an injury cloud over triple Major winning Padraig Harrington after he injured his left foot on Tuesday night while in the gym of his Portugal Masters on-course hotel.

Harrington was under so much pain he was forced to remove his golf shoe during  the course of Wednesday’s Pro-Am on the Oceanico Victoria course at Villamoura.

Harrington immediately phoned his physio, Dale Richardson who met the current World No. 78 on the ninth hole.

Richardson applied a bandage and then was meeting Harrington later on in the day for further treatment.

“I bruised the top of my foot after it had locked up in the gym last night,” said Harrington.

“Then out on the course it was starting to get uncomfortable and irritating so that’s why I had my shoe off.

“I’ve got it back moving again but then I am going to see Dale again later today.”

However, there was no evidence of any limping when Harrington ended the pro-am but the injury does through doubt as to whether the Dubliner can end a three-year major tour success with victory on the Algarve.

If Harrington is to contest next month’s $US 7m WGC – HSBC Champions event in Shanghai he has to be inside the top-25 on Sunday night, and he can only achieve that with victory this week.

Harrington enjoys the unique record of having played 38 WGCs and more than any other player presently competing.
