George Murray The Toast Of Anstruther After His Thrilling Dunhill Links Achievement.

It was as though George Murray had won the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship.

The celebration at the Anstruther Golf Club on Sunday night was fitting for the Scot who claimed the biggest pay cheque of his professional career in sharing third place with former U.S. Open champion, Graeme McDowell.

The 28-year old played the final round in the company of Luke Donald and brilliantly outscored the World No. 1 over the famed Old Course shooting a closing round 67 to Donald’s 70.

Murray’s share of third and a timely prize cheque of Euro 198,676 lifted the popular Scot from 180th and well outside the top-115 on the Race to Dubai money list to 80th and the assurance of holding onto his European Tour card for 2012.

The former Scottish Amateur champions prize cheque was Euro 150,000 more than what Murray earned in secured in finishing third in last year’s Maderia Islands Open where he also posted his lowest Tour score of a six under par 66.

However Murray matched that 66 in round two of the Dunhill Links before ending with a pair of 67s.

And what better place to celebrate than his beloved Anstruther Golf Club located about 15 minutes east of St. Andrews and a club where he won the Club Championship, and where on one wall is a photograph of Murray with the Scottish Amateur title.

Family member’s , friends and supporters joined Murray in toasting his success.

Murray arranged an ‘open’ bar while those present showed their affection for the ‘Anster’ born pro singing a rousing rendition of ‘There’s only one George Murray.  There’s only one George Murray.”

www.golfbytourmiss.com was happy to join Murray in celebrating his marvellous effort.

Well done, George!  See you this week in Madrid.
