Speculation grows Darren Clarke and Miguel Angel Jimenez will captain the respective Vivendi Trophy team sides later this year.

Tour officials met with French sponsors and Ryder Cup Captain, Jose Maria Olazabal during a 100-person dinner in the Versailles Palace on Friday night.

The appointment of both the GB & I and European team captain’s will be announced in the week after the Open Championship.

Olazabal, as the current European Ryder Cup Captain, has the honour of selecting the two captains and according to his manager, Sergio Gomez, Olazabal is keen to ‘blood’ the pair as opposing Vivendi Trophy captains ahead of one day the pair being appointed European Ryder Cup captains.

“Darren and Miguel have both acted as vice-captains in the Ryder Cup but Jose Maria and the Tour want to see how they perform under the pressure of being a team captain,” said Gomez.
