PGA Tour Winning Drought for Major Champs

Here’s a sobering statistic.

Of the last nine Major Champions only one has won on the PGA Tour since winning at the game’s highest level.

That was defending Masters champion Phil Mickelson who ended a 51-week winless drought in capturing the Shell Houston Open.

However since the 2008 U.S. PGA Championship at Oakland Hills eight other players, including 14-times Major winner Tiger Woods, have been winless in PGA Tour money-list counting events.

They include:-

Padraig Harrington – 2008 U.S. PGA Championship

Angel Cabrera – 2009 Masters.

Lucas Glover – 2009 U.S. Open

Stewart Cink – 2009 British Open

Y.E. Yang – 2009 U.S. PGA Championship

Graeme McDowell – 2010 U.S. Open

Louis Oosthuizen – 2010 British Open

Martin Kaymer – 2010 British Open.

In fairness, Harrington won last year’s Johor Open on the Asian Tour while McDowell captured the Andalucian Masters on the European Tour as well as the Tiger Woods hosted Chevron World Challenge.

Oosthuizen returned home to win the Africa Open.

Also Kaymer returned from Whistling Straits to Europe to win the KLM Open and the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship.

And just one last possible statistic.  Should a European Tour member win the Masters it will a European Tour Grand Slam.
