There is a real log jam on day one of the Andalucian Masters with five players – the Swedish trio of former Scottish Open champ Johan Edfords, Oscar Floren and Rikard Karlberg plus the England pair of Robert Rock and Jamie Elson – leading the field head the field after signing for 65s.
Five other players – Germany’s Florian Fritsch, Spain’s Raul Quiros, Denmark’s Jeppe Huldahl, Japan’s Tetsuji and Scotland’s Paul Lawrie – are next best at four under par.
There is then 14 players, among them Nick Dougherty in a good return to form plus fellow Englishmen Mark Foster and Anthony Wall, who was runner-up last week in Sicily, shooting scores of 67.
Ryder Cup stars Paul McGinley (68) along with Colin Montgomerie (69) and Darren Clarke (69) are not that far off the pace.
