Aloha Golf Club, Costa Del Sol – A Warm Welcome But Never A Goodbye.
The Aloha Golf Club on Spain’s Costa del Sol should be no stranger to serious golf fans as it played host in 2007, 2008 and more recently 2012 to the Andalucian Open.
England’s Lee Westwood lifted the trophy in 2007, Frenchman Thomas Levet dedicated his 2008 success to an then ailing Seve Ballesteros while his compatriot, Julian Quesne posted a new course record of 64 to win last year.
Reporting on Quesne’s victory was the first time I had visited the club and this has always been ...
Skeabost House Hotel Golf Course, Skye – Where Golf & Marriage Rule In Harmony.
There’s no denying the subject of golf and marriage will long be the butt of many jokes.
However for a first occasion in more than 25 years reporting on golf around the world I came across a scenario where golf and marriage are joined in harmony.
Earlier this year (2013) Tour Miss and myself, along with neighbour, Mary Heal and very good friend, George Morris set out on a trip to the Scotland Western Isles of Lewis and Harris.
However rather than be delayed in any traffic we made the decision ...
Cardigan Golf Club – Button Up For A Wonderful Welsh Golfing Experience.
First-time visitors to Cardigan Golf Club in Wales are easily recognizable.
They’re usually the ones constantly taking photographs of the views from this stunning course perched high above the shores of Cardigan Bay on the Teifi Estuary.
The course commands fantastic views not only of Cardigan Bay but also the distant Preseli Hills, the Lleyn Peninsula and the legendary Bardsey Island or the ‘Island of 20,000 saints’ lying just two miles off the coast.
Brief Club History
Golf was first played ...
Beauvallon Golf Club – Beautiful French Course Overlooking St. Tropez’s ‘Beautiful People’.
Just a short distance inland from the ‘beautiful people’ playgrounds of St. Tropez and St. Maxine on the sun-splashed Mediterranean is a playground of a different kind.
Beauvallon Golf Club doesn’t stand on ceremony and would not bat an eye lid if you arrived in a gleaming Ferrari or a mud-spattered mini or whether you’ve been on the front cover of a glossy magazine or the back pages of local rag.
As the name implies, Beauvallon translates into beautiful valley and beautiful it is.
The course ...
The Country Club Of Rochester – Walter Hagen’s ‘Home’ Club.
About a decent par four away from this week’s PGA Championship host venue at Oak Hill is another famed golf course – The Country Club of Rochester.
Having driven past the golf course since our arrival here on Monday we decided to visit the club on the eve to the commencement of the 95th PGA Championship.
Among the few people we met was Michael Morse and his wife, Margie.
Michael was hard not to miss as he was carrying under his arm a handful of hickory shaft clubs.
The club was founded ...
Isle of Skye Golf Club – The Challenge Not Being Distracted By The Setting.
While the world’s best golfers will be fighting fiercely to manoeuvre themselves into position to capture the Open Championship, a championship of different sorts will take place on Saturday, July 20th, 2013.
Those golfers not at Muirfield will be making their way to the picture postcard island of Skye for the annual – Isle of Skye Open.
The Isle of Skyle Golf Club is one of just two golf courses on Skye and what wonderful nine-hole experience.
The club with next year celebrate its 50-year anniversary ...
Tarpon Springs Golf Club, Florida
Tarpon Springs is an 18-hole golf course located in Tarpon Springs along the Gulf of Mexico shoreline on the west portion of Florida.
It was another of the courses we inspected during the Tampa Bay Championship.
The original nine holes of the golf course was designed in 1906 and with the second nine finished in the late 1920’s.
The course plays to a par 72 and measures 6,243 yards from the back tees with many doglegs that make it play longer than the actual length.
Tarpon Springs boasts four par ...
