Five-time European Tour winner Michael Hoey has withdrawn from this year’s Open Championship through injury. Hoey had shot an opening round of a five over par 75 and was three over par through seven holes on day two when he withdrew. It has been revealed Hoey recently had a callous removed from his left foot but in replacing the bandage this morning a large portion of flesh came away from the bandage. Former double Open winner Ernie Els was left visibly shaken when an errant drive at the opening hole cannoned straight into the face of a male spectator.
