Six months after singing his praise, Darren Clarke has reacted to a severe downturn in form by sacking his British Open winning caddy, John Mulrooney.
Clarke gave fellow Irishman Mulrooney, and also aged 42, his notice after Clarke missed the halfway cut in Abu Dhabi with scores of 72 and 81.
Mulrooney teamed with Clarke purely by co-incidence for last May’s Iberdrola Open in Majorca after firstly David Howell and then Maarten Lafeber, who Mulrooney was to caddy, both became injured and withdrew.
