Easter Sunday Greetings From The Masters – Martin Blake Set To Tackle Augusta National.

Easter Sunday greetings from the Media Centre at Augusta National. As we wait in anticipation at the fitting of the green jacket to the 2012 Masters champion there has already been good news for some lucky journalists in the now annual draw to play the course Monday. Among the some 40 chosen to play Augusta National is BBC Radio’s Iain Carter and the Australian duo of Martin Blake and Jim Tucker. I had the pleasure of having dinner with Martin last night where we could not help ourselves and ...

McIlroy Obviously Still Scarred By 2011 Masters Meltdown

It seems apparently obvious that Rory McIlroy is still carrying the emotional scars of last year’s Masters meltdown. How else do you explain one of the pre-Augusta National favourites posting a third round 77 when heading into day three in such a commanding position. Many former champions, including Mark O’Meara, Fred Couples, Mike Weir and three-time Masters winner Phil Mickelson, were each quizzed in the lead-up to this year’s first Major on McIlroy’s mental make-up this ...

McDowell’s High Augusta Hopes Fall Flat.

Graeme McDowell confessed his high hopes of adding a Masters to his U.S. Open success have fallen flat. McDowell will head to the final round at two over par and 11 strokes behind 2010 Ryder Cup winning team mate, Peter Hanson of Sweden, with scores of 75, 72 and a third day 71. Day three of McDowell’s fifth Masters began well enough with birdies at the second and third holes but he gave those shots back with bogeys at the par four 5th and 7th holes. McDowell then dropped a further shot ...

Paul Lawrie Lends His Support To ‘The Patch’ – Augusta Municipal Golf Course.

It was not the same as driving down Magnolia Lane but for Paul Lawrie driving into Augusta’s ‘other’ golf course during Masters week was as rewarding. Augusta Municipal is about a public a golf course as you can get. The course is located on Highland’s Ave and is only a five minute drive to Augusta Country Club and just a further few minutes to a sign saying ‘Augusta National Golf Club.  Members Only’. There’s a World War 11 Sherman tank on one corner of Augusta Municipal and the ...

Irish Eyes Smiling At Irish Get Together

Once again, Tourism Ireland hosted the media attending this year’s Masters. It is an occasion to catch up with those Irish Tourism officials working in the States and with the news that Americans travelling to play golf in Ireland is on the increase after years of decline due to the economy. And helping that is the fact Ireland now boasts four Major champions in Padraig Harrington, Graeme McDowell, Rory McIlroy and Darren Clarke. And the message from Tourism Ireland was:  “We don’t ...

McIlroy Draws On Late First Round Momentum To Surge Into Masters Contention On Day Two

Rory McIlroy put himself back into Masters winning contention with a  skilful 69 on day two of the Masters. After the first hole double bogey mishap on day one it was McIlroy at his US Open winning best on day two of the year’s first Major. McIlroy quickly moved into overtaking mode with three birdies in his opening seven holes and while he managed an even par inward nine his five under par tally put the curly haired Ulsterman just two behind the leading duo of Fred Couples (67) and Jason Duffner ...
