Harrington & Els Horror Show At Hilton Head.

Between them they’ve captured six Major Championships but it was pure agony watching  Padraig Harrington and Ernie Els competing side-by-side on the second day of the RBC Heritage Classic at Hilton Head in South Carolina. The alligators sunning themselves on a number of the banks about the Harbour Town course generated more interest than the collective efforts of Harrington and Els. Harrington looked back to his triple Major Championship winning best in finishing eighth five days earlier ...

Bubba Watson To Run For U.S. President.

New Masters champion Bubba Watson announced he is going to run for U.S. President. Of course, Watson was joking but given how he took New York by storm the Augusta National winning hero is sure to poll plenty of votes. Watson was waiting to be a guest on CBS’s ‘This Morning’ when he met Virginia Governor, Robert McDonnell, who PGA Tour.com believe is rumoured to be seeking the Republican Vice-President nomination. And after shaking hands with McDonnell Watson jokingly tells ...

Darren Clarke Remarries In Bahamas

Darren Clarke has married Alison Campbell in a simply ceremony on a Bahama beach. (I am happy to report I predicted this last week while writing an Augusta diary piece for The Express newspaper) Clarke first met Campbell in 2009 when the pair were set up on a blind date by fellow golfer Graeme McDowell. Campbell is a former Miss Northern Ireland and Campbell runs a model agency in Belfast and McDowell had been dating one of Campbell’s models. Clarke’s first wife, Heather died of breast cancer ...

Bubba Watson Drawn Into Augusta’s All-Male Membership Controversy

Masters champion Bubba Watson found himself drawn into the Augusta National’s controversial all-male club policy when he appeared on the Piers Morgan Tonight Show. Watson travelled to New York on Tuesday to tape the show that was shown later than night on CNN. Here is the text of Morgan’s interview with Watson. Piers Morgan: There was a big row this week about Augusta allowing women members. You’re the champion. What is your view? Bubba Watson: This day and age, I think that I don’t ...

Bubba Watson’s ‘Hey Bud!’ To President Obama.

Bubba Watson wasn’t about to change his laid back ways even if it was President Obama phoning the Masters winning hero. Watson was in New York for a whirlwind tour of radio and TV chat show appearances when Obama phoned from the White House. “Hey Bubba,” said Obama. Watson, without thinking, responded:  “Hey Bud.  I mean Mr. President.” Watson said the President told him not to worry, he could call him Bud. “We’re all golfers,” Watson remembers the conversation going “and I said, ...

Baddeley Draws Energy From Watson’s Masters Success

Among the first to congratulate new Masters champion on the green at the second extra hole Augusta National play-off was Australia’s Aaron Baddeley. Baddeley joined the likes of fellow PGA Tour players Bill Haas and Rickie Fowler to embrace Watson in the wake of his very emotional success among the ‘Cathedral of the Pines’. The Australian remained at the course after a final round 74 gave him a share of 40th place with pre-Augusta favourites Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy. It was just the fourth ...

Sergio Garcia – Again Time For A Little Help From His Friends.

Well!  ‘El Nino’ really whipped a storm at Augusta. In what had to be one of the most bizarre admissions for some time in any sport Garcia hinted he may soon be departing on yet another sabbatical. Garcia’s fiery Spanish temperament meant he’s never been one to hold back with his feelings and this was no more evident in speaking with the Spanish press attending this year’s Masters following a third round of 77. A day earlier he was  in the Augusta Media Centre happily discussing a second ...
