It has been revealed that organisers of this week’s Emirates Australian Open had ear-marked World No. 1 Rory McIlroy to contest this week’s event in Sydney.
However once McIlroy stormed to his eight stroke success at Kiawah Island to win the PGA Championship the asking price for the 23-year old Northern Irishman to tee up in Australia soared.

The PGA TOUR announced today Rory McIlroy as the PGA TOUR Player of the Year and John Huh as PGA TOUR Rookie of the Year, as voted on by the TOUR’s membership for the 2012 season.
PGA TOUR members who played in at least 15 official money events in 2012 were eligible to vote. The balloting process ended on November 30.
