Scotland’s David Drysdale and his wife/caddy are chilling out this week in Dubai after the Scot remarkably held onto his European Tour card for the 2021/22 season.
The couple had virtually given-up on Drysdale retaining full membership rights for a 13th straight season after ‘Double D’ missed the cut in last week’s AVIV Dubai Championship.
And while they watched the drama unfold on TV from the hotel room the unthinkable happened with the Scot moving back to 121st place, and the very last place on the Race to Dubai money-list to retain membership.
Vicky Drysdale, who handles the couple’s twitter account, posted:
DD & I have never been so Happy & Relieved to be the last man IN on the R2D Rankings this year 💪💃🏻🕺⛳️@EuropeanTour Its not been the best of seasons for us However we are so glad to be playing on #DPWorldtour in 2022 Thanks to everyone who has supported us ❤️👏#TeamDD pic.twitter.com/nRNQmLCkfi

“DD & I have never been so Happy & Relieved to be the last IN on the R2D Rankings this year @EuropeanTour. It’s not been the best of seasons for us however we are so glad to be playing on #DPWorldTour in 2022. Thanks to everyone who has supported us #TeamDD”
And Drysdale’s fellow Scots are equally proud including good friend Scott Jamieson who finished the leading Scot in Dubai.
He said: “I sent him a text just to take the piss out him as he must be the only guy who started a week outside the rankings then missed the cut and then held onto his Tour card (laughing)
“David was pretty frank about it all last week saying if he held onto his card then well and good but if he lost it, then it was his own fault.
“No, I’m delighted for him and Vicky. There was one year he got really shafted and missed holding onto his card by about 40 quid or something but then I’ve been in that situation myself coming to the final few events of the year and it’s not easy.
“So, hopefully now he’s on the right side of the Race to Dubai he can kick on to better things once the new season starts the week after next”.
And Grant Forrest, who grabbed a first win on home soil this season, was equally pleased for the Drysdale’s.
He said: “All the Scots are delighted for David and Vicky. They’re a great couple and were so helpful and encouraging to me when I came onto the Tour.
“It was a nail-biting scenario for him and to have held onto his card after missing the cut is amazing, and just so pleased for them”.
