Scotland’s David Drysdale and his wife/caddy, Vicky will be no doubt be hoping they have a special ‘guest’ in the back seat when the duo head north following the close of this week’s Cazoo Classic at the London Club.
‘Double D’ superbly muscled his way into a share of sixth place on the back of bogey-free 67 for a nine-under par tally on day three of the inaugural event in Kent.
The superb effort on golf’s traditional ‘moving day’ sees Drysdale heading to the final round just four shots behind Dane Rasmus Hojgaard who leads by three shots after setting a new course record thanks to a 10-under-par 62 for a 14-under par total.
“I’m delighted with my round as it was pretty solid and I was never in any bother”, said Drysdale.
“So, happy with the round as my overall game this year has been really inconsistent as I can put four rounds together one week with good ball-striking and the next week it’s not happening. The good thing the last four weeks my game has been improving and while it hasn’t been great, it’s headed in the right direction”.
And in speaking of ‘heading in the right direction’, the Drsdale’s have used the four-event ‘UK Swing’ to drive to tournaments rather than the current burden of taking to the skies.
It meant first driving from the east coast Scottish residence to Wales and then crossing the Irish Sea to Northern Ireland and then being in St. Andrews for the Hero Open ahead motoring down the A1 to Kent for this week’s Zahoo Classic in Kent.
“I’m loving this ‘UK Swing’ as Vicky and I have done all four weeks in the car driving down to Wales and we then caught the ferry to Ireland and then back to Scotland, and then drove down here this week,” he said after posting a five-under par 67 on day three at the London Club.
“We’re not in a hurry to get anywhere, so we’re just been chilling out on a Monday driving halfway or so to a tournament and stay somewhere overnight and it’s back in the car the next morning to complete the trip.
“So, that’s been nice and not having to go through an airport all the time”.
And with Drysdale contesting a 533rd event how dearly would he love to be returning home with a first Tour trophy sitting proudly on the back seat of he and his wife, Vicky’s vehicle.
