Spieth Regrets Not Contesting Scottish Open After Second A Week Later In The Open

Former Open champ Jordan Speith regrets not adding the Scottish Open to his schedule after finishing runner-up last month at Royal St. George’s.

Speith, 28 has played just one ‘regular’ European Tour event in his career and that was back in 2026 at Abu Dhabi

But after going so close to a second Claret Jug he admits after a question by golfbytourmiss.com it was a mistake not to play the Scottish Open and that he will enter next year’s event.

He said: “I would say very highly likely I will now play next year’s Scottish Open.

“It’s a great idea to play and I wish that I had this year, to be honest, and I expressed that right after The Open.

“I thought a couple mistakes that I made potentially could have been a little bit of somewhat rust of a few weeks off; little like wedge plays where I used a 60 where in the States I would fly it next to the hole, but over there you’ve got to bump something up.

“And I left it short on 17 on Saturday, just little shots where I was like, man if only. Or putts where I left it short where I just hadn’t fully adjusted to the speed of the greens.

“So, I think it’s extremely useful not only because it’s always one of the better field tournaments of the year anywhere in the world, but also because of the preparation that it is for The Open Championship.

“I would say then it’s very likely I will be playing next year’s Scottish Open.”

Spieth, and winner of the 2017 Open at Royal Birkdale, had been three off the lead heading to the final round after earlier scores of 65, 67 and 69 and then matched Collin Morikawa’s last day 66 to finish two behind his fellow countryman.

It was Spieth’s best finish in a major since his welcome return to form earlier this year with a third place at The Masters.
