Little known Scottish amateur Ryan Lumsden, and the World No. 100th ranked amateur, has brilliantly qualified for next week’s U.S. Open at Shinnenock Hills.
Bizarrely, at the start of qualifying on Monday there was no Scots into this year’s second Major but the Home of Golf nation will now boast three after Richie Ramsay qualified by sharing third place at Walton Heath and some five hours later with Russell Knox being tied for fifth and among the leading 14 at similiar 36-hole qualifier in suburban Columbus, Ohio.
Now Scotland has three into the 2018 U.S. Open with the St. Andrews born but now Australian-based Lumsden qualifying in a share of 10th place also in Columbus with scores of 68 and 70.
