The partners behind the Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open have moved to reassure Scottish golf fans over the future date of the tournament the week prior to The Open.
The European Tour, Aberdeen Asset Management and the Scottish Government (represented by VisitScotland) have confirmed that there is no prospect of the dates of the Scottish Open changing on the European Tour schedule.
The unique tri-partite relationship with the three main partners has seen the tournament go from strength to strength since 2012 when Aberdeen Asset Management and the Scottish Government agreed to support the event. In 2014 the agreement was extended by all partners through to 2020 committing support to the tournament, which includes retaining the spot on the European Tour schedule the week before The Open.
Keith Pelley, Chief Executive of the European Tour, said: “We are proud of our strong partnership with Aberdeen Asset Management and the Scottish Government and look forward to the Scottish Open continuing to be a firm fixture on the European Tour the week before The Open.”
There had been strong suggestions at the Dubai Duty Free Irish Open that the Irish event may alternate with the Aberdeen Asset Management Open in being staged the week prior to The Open.
But then it was always felt Aberdeen Asset Management would fight to retain the week before The Open and this is now the case.
