Vijay Singh Pays Glowing Tribute Former Caddy Dave Renwick.

Three-time Major winning Vijay Singh has paid a glowing tribute to his late caddy, Dave Renwick.

Renwick, 62 passed away earlier this month during the week of the Omega Dubai Desert Classic after a long battle with pancreatic cancer.

The Scottish-born Renwick had the distinction of having earned five Majors caddying for three different players and one of those was Singh.

In fact, Renwick caddied for Jose Maria Olazabal (1994 Masters), Steve Elkington (1995 PGA) and Singh (1998 PGA, 2000 Masters, 2004 PGA).

However Renwick enjoyed the most success as a caddie with Singh winning nine times on the PGA Tour, and including defeating Tiger Woods down the stretch at one event that sent the Fijian-born Singh to World No. 1.

www.golfbytourmiss.com caught up with Singh during this week’s Honda Classic at PGA National and with Singh speaking for the first time publicly of his admiration for Renwick.

“It was very sad to learn Dave had passed away but then he had been ill for such a long time but then it just showed what a fighter Dave was, as I think they only gave him a few months to live and he lived nearly a year longer,” said Singh.

“So it was sad to be informed he had finally lost his battle.

“But then Dave and I sure had some success together and they’re the good memories I will have of Dave.

“I phoned his house a few times after he stopped working on the Tour but then as he got progressively worst it was difficult as how do you speak with a guy who you know is dying and ask ‘how’s he doing?’.

“But then his spirits were still high right to the end and that’s testimony to his character and standing here we had so many fond memories and it’s difficult to single out one.

“However he was the best caddy I had ‘caddy-wise’ in my career and when he was on my bag, he didn’t like anybody else.

“He was very honest with me and totally devoted the task I had of trying to win golf tournaments, and in saying that Dave would not hold back if he thought I was doing something wrong or should change anything.

“And Dave was like that with everyone he caddied.

“I’ll miss him as will everyone else he came in contact.”
