Rory McIlroy Hints Masters Champions Menu Main Course … ‘Poached Eggs On Toast’.

Rory McIlroy hinted ‘poached eggs on toast’ could be a Masters Champions main meal should he win at Augusta National.

McIlroy revealed his all-time culinary favourite after posting a five under par 67 on the opening day of the Turkish Airlines Open at Belek.

The current World No. 3, and competing in the event for a first time, birdied his second hole ahead of posting seven straight pars but then completing his inward nine holes in four under par in ideal conditions on the Montgomerie course.

It left McIlroy trailing six strokes behind South African Jaco Van Zyl who shot a new course record of an 11-under par 61.

The World No. 132 ranked Van Zyl  capped his round with an 11th hole eagle ahead of birding five of his last six holes and in a round that was three shots fewer than the Johannesburg-born golfer’s prior best score on the Race to Dubai.

Lee Westwood is three shots back in posting a seven under par 65 and in a round capped by four birdies in succession from the Englishman’s fifth hole.

McIlroy and past Augusta National winner Charl Schwartzel kick-started the $7m event the night before in bake-off competition at the nearby Maxx Royal Hotel.

The duo was dressed in traditional chefs gear ahead of being presented with a mystery bag of identical ingredients and, with the assistance of two Turkish Airlines in-flight chefs, given the task of capturing the judge’s approval in cooking the best ‘Turkish theme’ meal.

McIlroy got the judges nod with a chicken dish while Schwartzel opted for a South African beef theme dish.

“It was okay night and we clearly had a lot of help from the Turkish Airlines chefs and Charl and I have looked better before, and that’s for sure given we were wearing chefs hats and check shirts ,” he said smiling.

“But then I have to say I though Charl’s dish tasted a bit better than mine but then I got the win in the end.

“However I don’t think anyone will be adopting my recipe anytime soon though you never know!”

But when asked his favourite all-time dish he could serve with confidence McIlroy said:  “Poached eggs on toast.”
