Gavin Moynihan Lines Up On Monza Start Grid Awaiting First Pro Career Green Flag.

Rookie pro Gavin Moynihan is not unlike his motor racing colleagues on the opposite side of the tall boundary fence separating the Milano Golf Club course from the Monza Autodrome, and home each year to the Italian F1 Grand Prix.

All they want to see is the starter’s green flag.

It is very much the case for the 20-year old Moynihan who has been waiting for this day to come for some time.

The Island Golf Club attached golfer waited his time to contest last week’s Walker Cup and now after being a member of the record points-setting GB & I team, he can’t wait to hit a first shot as the European Tour’s newest professional.

“I am really looking forward to getting going after a pretty hectic few days,” he said.

“I played a lot of golf last week and it was just great to end my amateur career on a winning note in being a member of a winning GB & I team.

“I played a practice round yesterday (TUES) and then 9-holes this morning but with the rain we had overnight, it’s playing a lot longer than a day earlier.

“So now ready to go and can’t wait and getting going.”

Moynihan will step onto the first tee just prior to his 12.40pm tee off local time and will be the last to tee off in the company of England’s Paul Maddy and South African Tjaart Van Der Walt.

And helping Moynihan settle into a new career path has been the likes of fellow Irish Kevin Phelan along with Irish-born Ryder Cup captains Paul McGinley and Darren Clarke.

McGinley met up with Moynihan and the GB & I team at last week’s Walker Cup while Clarke played a practice round with him on Tuesday.
